Sub : Golden Jubilee Celebration of UCE, Burla

Dear Sir,

You will be extremely happy to learn that our alma mater will be celebrating her Golden Jubilee from January - December 2006 on the eve of completion of 50 years of glorious history. It has been unanimously decided in the Annual Alumni Meet on 27th Feb’ 05 that the inaugural function shall be celebrated at Burla on 8th January 2006 and shall be concluded at Burla on 24th December 2006. Honorable Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of Orissa will be invited to grace the inaugural function while Honorable President of India, Chancellor, and Minister of Human Resources & Development will be invited for the valedictory function. Also, we are planing to invite leading industry leaders like Mr Anil Ambani. Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla and Mr Narayan Murthy on different occasions. The subcentres at Rourkela, Angul, Bhubaneswar and other locations shall be celebrating the Golden Jubilee at their respective venues in between the inaugural and the valedictory function. Various Committees such as APEX Committee, ADVISORY Committee, CORE Committee, FUND-RAISING sub-committee, ACCOUNT & FINANCE sub-committee, SOUVENIR sub-committee, MEDIA & PUBLICATION sub-committee, STATUS UPGRADATION sub-committee, TECHNICAL SEMINAR & CONFERENCE sub-committee, etc have been constituted.

As a proud product of this great institution, you are requested to join hands with the long chain of 13000 alumni across the Globe in celebrating this memorable and glorious event. You are requested to send back more information about you, your family and your achievement – in the enclosed format - which will be entered into our Alumni database and be displayed in our newly-launched official website www.uceburla.ac.in.

You must be feeling anguished that today the name of UCE, Burla is being counted as one among the forty odd Government & Private engineering colleges of the State. Our alma mater is silently suffering the apathy and negligence while the newly born private colleges have been upgraded in their status. A resolved movement has already been launched on the eve of Golden Jubilee to bring back the past glory and give a renewed identity to our Alma Mater. For upgrading UCE to the coveted “Deemed University” status, steps have been initiated to complete the pre-requisites such as Accreditation, Society Registration, filling-up of vacant teaching posts, restoration of Board of management, etc. Please let us know if you can help us in these matters.

Ironically, the college will be celebrating its 50 years glorious history at a critical juncture when it is faced with serious identity crisis due to reduced financial support from the Government and apathy of concerned authorities. As a result, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain or upgrade the equipment, buildings, classrooms, hostels, and campus. Development of new infrastructures such as modern laboratory, Internet center, seminar hall, computational facilities to match the fast-changing industrial needs have also not taken place in the last decades. The Alumni Association has begun raising fund to take up few projects in the Golden Jubilee Year. Most notable being (a) Internet centre, with 100 nodes (b) e-classroom, i.e. A/C Seminar Hall (c) Golden Jubilee Memorial Gate (d) Computerization of library, etc. We make an appeal to your good self to contribute to the fund, which would be utilized to impart advanced learning & quality education to our students.

You are requested to make your contribution in the form of draft / cheque made in favour of "UCE Golden Jubilee Fund", Account no – 01100050187, payable at SBI, Burla, and please send it either to the “Principal, University College of Engineering - Burla, At / Po. – Burla Engineering College, Burla, District - Sambalpur - 768 018, Orissa” or to the Vice-President of the nearest sub-centre (Rourkela, Angul, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Bangalore). The acknowledgement shall be sent to you after receipt of your contribution. The name of the contributors shall be put in our website and shall be displayed on screen during the Golden Jubilee celebration. You will be happy to know that soon after the opening of the account, our alumni – in India and abroad - have already contributed about two lakhs rupees to the fund. The updated list of contributors till date is enclosed for your reference. Our estimated expenditure for all the Golden Jubilee projects is in excess of Rs 1.5 Crores ( one and half crores rupees ). So, we appeal you to come forward to put your contribution to the fund and exercise your contacts to mobilze fund or asset from individuals as well as from organizations. We also earnestly request you to circulate this message to as many alumni as possible.

Our earnest appeal to you:
o Send your information in the format as input to the Alumni database, under preparation
o Make your own contribution to the UCE GOLDEN JUBILEE FUND
o Arrange contributions from industries, organizations, advertisements
o Circulate this message to at least 20 alumni. Give their addresses to us as well
o Write and send across an article to us for publication in GJ souvenir
