Hi All,

         I want to inform you a very shocking incident happened with me last saturday.

I got call on my mobile from Mr. Shyam Sunder of 1995 batch passout, Mechanical Engg as told by him.He told me that he is working in Sydney in a Telecom company(name I forgot), He is in Bangalore for two weeks for an interview of Telstra(another telecom company of Austarlia). The interview was in Mumbai, He had been to Mumbai for the interview,he lost his wallet there..with all money and credit/debit  cards.He has not a single penny to return back to bangalore(I stay in b'lore).So he wants me to help..some money (2.5k)to transfer to his ICICI bank account,he will come to bangalore and return it(he has cheque book in his room in b'lore to pay as he told)..He talked to me for 10-15 mnts..told he got my cell no from alumni website..also told few of our Prof. name..he also told his Roll no as 91UCE001.

I was almost convinced..to help a fellow unicollegian..as he was in such a situation.He gave me his Account no...etc..

I went to the near by cafe try to find his name in alumniuce, I could not found.Also alumni website was not accesible at that time(only there I have updated my cell no) due to bandwidth issue. then I call Mr. Sitansu Joshi..thanks..he gave cell no of Mr. Subhash Chandra of 1995 batch mechanical  passout.I talked to him..he confirmed no such Shyam sunder was there in his batch.Thanks a lot to Mr. Subhash chandra also.

Then I searched all the 400/500 mebers present in Alumniuce yahoo group datbase.I found another Mr. Sanjay Agrawal as Roll no 91UCE001.

So I decided not to transfer.As I had already added his account no as payee in my ICICI bank account..the name was same as in shyamsunder..but god knows who was that fellow..trying to cheat me.He must have done a lot of home work before calling me..as gave the details..of our college and faculties..also the role no..Its not imppossible for a outsider to collect data from the alumni website..bt still I would suggest to be care ful.

Its good to have a alumni network and contact details of all handy..bt cann't we check some authentication in our website to enter the database to avoid such incidents.

ya about the phone no. problem, now I’ve made some change in the page.

Bhai, Some interesting thing happened on Saturday. Some ‘Anonymous’ person had made calls to many UCEians at mumbai/pune & had introduced himself to be an UCEian of 95 batch & faked a story that he had been for the Microsoft interview & now has lost his purse & is in need of money.

When asked to come to our room & collect it, he said, ‘it’s pretty urgent. Can u make internet fund transfer to his icici account?’. He doesn’t know oriya. He said, he doesn’t know anyone of his batchmates at mumbai. When asked about his parents, he said none of his family members are in India.

Uske baat se to, jabardast fraud lag raha tha. Anyway, it seems he got the phone nos. from the alumniuce site.

Now, I jus’ browsed thru the alumniuce log book, I’ve doubt on this member:

Hi,

His name shown in Account was SHYAM SUNDER only.

He also made the same story as made to Mr Prasanna. Only the company name was changed to Microsoft.

I want the details regarding him so that I can lodge a complain in the Police Station.
