GOLDEN JUBILEE MEETING
MINUTES
OF MEETING OF CORE COMMITTEE ON 13TH AUGUST

Following decision were taken in the meeting.
1.When shall the celebration be organized?
The inaugural function shall be held at Burla on 8th January 2006 and the
valedictory function on 24th December.
Bhubaneswar shall celebrate in October 2006
Angul shall celebrate in April 2006
Rourkela – No information
Ib Valley – merged along with Burla
AK Padhy shall co-ordinate with other subcentres like Bangalore, Hyderabad,
Chennai, Pune. These subcentres are free to choose their dates.
2.How the contribution shall be shared with Sub-Centers?
There are 3 sources of funding :
From Corporates or industries
From souvenir advertisement
From alumni’s personal contribution
It was
unanimously decided that :
Corporate sponsorship must be to UCE GOLDEN JUBILEE FUND of UCE only. All
the contributions from corporates like NALCO, MCL, HINDALCO, OPGC, etc would
directly come to the College. All the subcentres would extend full cooperation
in materializing the corporate helps.
Collection from alumni and from industries as advertisement sponsorship
from all subcentres shall also be routed to the UCE GOLDEN JUBILEE FUND account
in SBI / HDFC bank, Burla. The details of bank account and number of receipt
books have been handed over to respective subcentres.
The contributions from each subcentre ( alumni contribution and
advertisement subscription ) shall be accounted separately. Each subcentre shall
be given 25% of their total contributions towards the expenses of their
celebration at their subcentres. The
expenditure towards the publication of souvenir also shall be given fom the
Burla fund.
Bhubaneswar subcentre informed that they would be applying State Govt for a land
at BBSR on which an alumni house would be subsequently built. All the members
welcomes it and Burla agreed to bear the expenses towards the registration and
others.
3.
How the Souvenirs shall be managed?
There will be 5 souvenirs.
First one would be unveiled at Burla during inaugural
Last one would be unveiled at Burla during valedictory
Three souvenirs would be unveiled at BBSR, Angul and Rourkela during the
celebrations.
All the souvenirs shall be published as different volumes under the common
banner of the Alumni Association of UCE, Burla. All the souvenirs advertisement
shall come to Burla and expenditures also shall be met from central fund. All
the publication of advertisement shall be staggered in all souvenirs. Local
advertisements shall be given preferences for publication in respective
subcentre’s souvenir. Articles shall be collected by subcentres and shall be
forwarded to Burla. No restriction of pages for any subcentre. It was decided
that the centre and all subcentres shall put thrust in collecting the articles.
4. Guests
There are 5 functions.
Inaugural & Valedictory at Burla
One at BBSR
One at Angul
One at Rourkela
PM, IM, CM to be invited to inaugural ( Industry Minister to write letters, Er
Bimal Mishra to coordinate from BBSR )
President, HRDM, Governor to be invited to valedictory ( Industry Minister to
write letters, Er Bimal Mishra to coordinate from BBSR )
Other dignitaries who would be invited are : Mr Advani, Chairman – Plannings
Commission, Industry Secretary, Chief Secretary, Mr Ambani, Mr Birla, Mr Sam
Pitroda, Chairman – POSCO, etc.
5. Status of corporate helps
NALCO : CMD, NALCO during last discussion informed that UCE should get a
recommendation from the Governor of Orissa for construction of the building (
estimated
cost is Rs 83.5 lakhs ) and equipment ( estimated at Rs 77.3 lakh ). Principal +
4 alumni to meet Chancellor on 27 Feb, after which next course shall be decided.
MCL : Minister Sri Jay Narayan Mishra and RDC have been requested for the
PDF. Principal shall again speak to RDC.
HINDALCO : Er AK Padhy informed that HINDALCO is ready to give 10 PCs.
Alumni Association to make a letter and meet the Joint President of HINALCO at
Hirakud.
Scan Steel : Income Tax rebate is being awaited after which the
collection shall be made. This issue is being handled by Er PK Pradhan, VP.
SAIL : Er Bramha Mishra and Er Sjarda Nayak (MLA) to be requested for
follow-up.
OPGC : Copy of the request letter given to Er Manik Pradhan. Er Bimal
Mishra also will co-ordinate with Corporate office of OPGC at BBSR.
TRL : Principal and alumni team would meet the MD during his proposed
visit.
OHPC : Principal himself would pursue the case.
NTPC : Principal spoke to GM, NTPC. To be followed up by Angul subcentre.
Copy of the letter handed over to Er AP Mohanty.
CWC : Principal himself would pursue the case.
WODC : During last meeting with WODC, they had informed that WODC would
include the project during November. Er Bimal Mishra would co-ordinate from BBSR.
Vedanta : Er AK Padhy will draft a letter and co-ordinate with Er SB
Nayak.
MP Lad Fund : Dr Bibhuti Pati shall co-ordinate with MPs.
6. Appeal to parents of the students to Contribute to GJ fund
It was decided that Vice President of Alumni Association shall write letters to
the parents of all the students (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, MCA ) to contribute
voluntarily to the UCE GOLDEN JUBILEE FUND. The benefits to the students from
the projects to be undertaken during GJ year shall be outlined and an appeal
shall be made to parents ( not to students ).
7. Commencement of Golden Jubilee Projects
Internet Centre & e_Classroom : This depends on the NALCO contribution.
So, to be decided after August 27.
Golden Jubilee Gate : To be commenced with immediate effect. Entire money
shall be met from alumni contribution. Principal & Alumni have tentatively
finalized the location. Drawing has been made. To be finalized during visit of
Er Prasant Acharya, 87 batch Alumni, who has been requested to take up the
construction job.
Automation of Library : Principal informed that College can contribute
some fund. Besides, OHPC has been requested for Rs 10 lakhs which shall be
followed up by the Principal himself. It was suggested that 10 PCs being given
by HINDALCO be connected in LAN in the library as soon as they are received.
After OHPC sanctions the automation project, the PCs shall be returned to the
proposed Internet Centre. Renovation of Dining Hall & Toilets of South Hostel
: It was decided that Alumni Association shall take up renovation of South
Hostel (which is the 1st yr hostel) Dining Hall and Toilets at a cost of Rs 4
lakhs with immediate effect. As the hostel renovation plans proposed by the
Works Department is expected to take time and visit of NBA team is expected
before end September, this work must start at the earliest and be completed
before NBA team visit. The other hostels shall be renovated either by Works Dept
or by College.
Renovation work undertaken by Works Department : Principal informed that
the Works Secretary Mr Ratnakar Das, President of BBSR subcentre, had visited
the college & hostels in July. He has made an estimation of renovation programme
of which utmost importance is repair of roof leakage of the college building &
hostel building. This job is yet to be tendered. Necessary paper work has been
completed at Secretariat level for transfer of maintenance of buildings from R&D
department to Works Department.
Memorial Stand : A new project was added. One tall memorial structure
shall be erected either in Hostel Central Garden or in college which shall be
dedicated to the memory of the students, teachers or employees who departed us
while in UCE.
Other Fund : Principal informed that college is eligible to get 2 crores
from Industry Department for Maintenance – one crore towards 2004-05 and one
crore towards 2005-06. In a shortwhile, College would receive Rs one crore
(2004-05). As such, College has started the renovation of College Toilets.
8. Status Upgradation :
Principal informed that two criteria which are required for Deemed University
status, viz (1) Adequate Teaching Staff (2) Accreditation of branches shall be
completed within 2 months. Vice-Chancellor is likely to recommend the case of
UCE, after satisfaction of above two criteria. However, the alumni present
requested the Principal to pursue with
the hon’ble VC to expedite the Society of Registration which is independent of
above two criteria.
9. Next Meeting :
Next meeting of Core Committee shall be held on 25th September ( Sunday ) at
Burla. All subcentres shall be informed a week before about the time and the
venue.
