It was the most daring adventure, way back in 1985 - the moment we felt the freedom of a senior!!

My only role was to collect Rs 1 from anyone interested to watch the special show, slated to be held after mid-night. As it was the first of its kind - in those days of bulky VCRs and tapes - special precautions had to be taken!!

A wanna-be-free-rider-denied-pointblank had done the insider job of informing the Hostel sup - a stern Electrical Engg Prof!!

Well, the show started in all the earnestness - with traditional Lungis ( Jockey made a entry pretty late into the youth psyche). One hour into the show ( out of a promised 3 hour visual feast), all hell broke loose.

Grapevine had that the crook had guided the professor and Lo!, the Prof was hunched over the VCR and the room went dark. It was stampede!!

The organisers, and the collectors, in that chaos, wanted to get that cassete ejected, sneaking under the prof who was holding on to it with all his might.

The attempt failed!! The machine and the poor cassette was confiscated and locked in that corner room of east Hostel, which was the Sup office.

We instantly knew who was the guy who gave us in!! We waited for another day, however!!

the Sup locked the hostel and left!!!

Money a special piece of paper, decorated in somber colors, which everyone agreed worth something - and i believed it, everyone believed it - Until you took a pile of that paper to a bank, a respectable, traditional, highly confidential Swiss bank and asked: could I buy back a few hours of my life? No sir we don’t sell we only buy.

That’s true but that past has conceived an amazing thing. A memory. And for all uceians it is a memory embedded in gold. which can never be destroyed or even be separated till we die.

Cheers for all Cheers for UCE!

UCE UCE UCE,
whenever I hear this word my heart gets filled in joy and khUCE,
joy and affection I received from this place will always remain in my memory.

First year taught me to respect my seniors,
Final year taught me to care for my juniors.
Professors taught me Electronics & Tele-Communication,
Friends taught me the love line equations.

Cricket,gals,movies were the ultimate gossip,
but they never came on the way of friendship.
Friendship is eternal I learnt over here,
these are the moments for which I will always long for.

As I come to the dusk of my stay,
memories of these place will always keep me happy and gay.
Eyes go teary as the days left are few
Friends it is the time to bid adieu.

Gone are those summer days. we used to go to Mahanadi for a summer bath on weekends and then come to the hostel dining room to have Pakhal Bhat (Rice in water) with curd and other vegetables as well.
This menu was also served in Tray.
Missing the KHHATI near the P.C. Bridge, Cycle ride to REMED in the evenings to have the taste of REMED Chicken.
Missing the Company of Sastri, Suvendu, Bharat Agarwal, Subhash, Prakash, Kelu, Durga and Asim.

THIS IS FOR THE STUDENTS OF 'MANUFACTURING SCIENCE AND ENGG.' WHO ARE NOW IN THE COLLEGE..: DO NOT WORRY FOR THE NAME OF THE BRANCH OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH SOMETIMES WORRIES YOU IN THE CAMPUS e.g. CAMPUS , JOBS ETC. I WILL SUGGEST THAT DON'T GET WORRIED FOR ANYTHING, JUST CONCENTRATE ON YOUR STUDIES, YOU HAVE A BRIGHT PATH OF LIFE WAITING FOR YOU IN FUTURE. YOU CAN ENTER INTO ANY CAREER LINE e.g. SOFTWARE, STEEL SECTOR, POWERPLANT, DESIGN, HEAVY MECHINARY, PRODUCTION, MAINTENANCE ETC ETC. SOME OF THE OIL AND GAS SECTORS LIKE GAIL, ONGC, IOCL, BPCL ETC HAVE SOME RESTRICTION FOR US. BUT, EXCEPT THEM ALMOST ALL THE PSUs ALLOW US TO SIT IN THIER SELECTION. CHEER UP. BEST OF LUCK....

When I joined UCE like others I too did not know that we were the Golden Jubilee batch and when we all came to know about it we thought that we would enjoy to our fullest........................!!!

But what I got here was beyond my imaginations.........it was like a PARADISE to me.........I felt like I was on a Four Year Excursion trip (Camp) where one learns so many things, loves so many people, fights for friends, enjoys strikes and and .............................many things one cant just write on has to be there to feel it....................

"UCE is gonna get wiped outta ma memories the day I move out.Who cares about this college? I am here just for a B.Tech degree and not an iota of a thing more or less... I guess I am gonna leave just with bitter memories"

This is what I used to think during my 4 yrs at UCE. Even during the last sem. Never felt a thing when I left the college. It was just a bit weird.

But none can fathom how I miss my days at UCE. I may not have sizable footprints of events with me to carry on with me but every moment I spent in my last 4 yrs were genuine. Be it friendship, be it betrayal, be it exuberance, be it lonliness, be it crowd, be it solitude... I wish I could relive my final year over and over again. Now I know I was a free bird then - waking at dawn, drowsy by dusk(lolz), delving into the profundity of the cornucopia life bestowed on me... I envy my past. I wonder if it was really me!

I didn't make much of a friends but I did have a small bunch of it. I love them a lot and miss 'em all. Miss them badly....

And for UCE err... VSSUT,
A little stanza I would like to quote

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
"

UCE has defined us. How can I forget my own defination.

There are many memories of those golden days. This event was a seed for the evolution of the highly proclaimed festival of UCE - Samavesh.

It was my first year at the college and the call for projects from IIT KGP (Ksithij) came. I and Nirakar created a Robot to participate in it. The day came when we were about to leave for KGP. A message came that Princi is not allowing any first year student to go to KGP. I was worried. I went to Priinci to show my Robot and convience him that I can at least participate in it. He didn't even saw my Robot and denied me to go. I came back hostel totally dipressed. Then I took the decision to go on my own. Me and Nirakar went bunking the classes and even a class test.
For the first time I faced a crowd from across India. There were more than 300 participants in the same event as mine. But we returned home as one of the best 15 teams.
That was the birth of Robotics in UCE. Though the Profs never knew that I went there in 1st Yr. :)

My fond memories include trips to Ray Dhaba, or Panchamukhi, Dwarka, Saket and much more. I deeply miss those moments because my 4 years in UCE were the easiest I have ever lived. We would bath in Mahanadi on Holi and sometimes be there just for fun even. What I would fear most is a walk on the PC bridge where the truckies rush without even the barest care. But still everyting was fun. Even in classes I would go out with my phone ringing I would say that its a call from industry. I remember friends coming to class without pen and paper, and used to borrow. I enjoyed even preparation for pujas and various festivals. There were guys like Biswaajit Parida,Aniket, Venus, Srinivas, Suraj etc who were devoted 100% to the cause of upgradation of the institute. I am a fan to all of them. Seen the hunger strike for university.

UCE and memories are an unforgettable part of my life. I am an integral part of the past, present and future of UCE

It was perhaps the engineering economics exam in 7 th sem. And that paper had got no permanent faculty and a professor from S.U. was teaching us, thus could not complete the course in time. We tried our best to cover all the chapters by one day because only one day gap was there, which was impossible. At perhaps 7:30 pm our Branch secretary Mr. Anoop Nanda came to my room (room no. 50, west hostel) and asked," Abe Bantu exam denge, course complete hogaya???". I said " no, noway". Then we decided to shift the exam.We then took conscent from our girl collegues and as ever they readilly agreed. We first called to our H.O.D. and expressed him everything. Then cosulting him we all went to the the principal immediately to make him know about all the issue. After much if and buts Principal agreed to allowed to shift the exam and to have extra classes to cover all the course. We were really overjoyed as if to have conquerd a war. We all came west hostel and in top floor and our famous corrider cricket match with the bedsheet made nets began while all the students of other branches were busy with cultivating books for tommorow's exam and they were really angry with us........ that was was a really memoriable occasion.......... meet you again.....BYE.....

I donot think i can forget my days in UCE. Still i remember those volley ball games, meshing around with friends, trip to Burla market on cycle, canteen foods. There are so many memories i cannot forget. Though when i was in UCE, as like others i was mad or first to criticize college. But now i miss it & respect the environment in which i was. I went few times to college after passout or passed from outside, always got a curosity what is going on my college. I love my college all of my friends & i will miss them forever.
